Where raw WordPress still wins

SailWP isn't the right call for every project.

Fair credit

If you have a developer and a stack already tuned to your business, raw WordPress is the safer route.

Big WooCommerce stores with 1,000+ products and complex shipping, membership and LMS sites built on LearnDash or MemberPress, forums, directories, anything depending on 20+ specialised plugins, those setups want raw WordPress with someone who maintains them. SailWP replaces eight common plugins and ships a wizard-built site; it doesn't replace the deep WordPress ecosystem for specialised use cases. If you already have a developer keeping your stack alive, the value SailWP adds is mostly the Co-pilot and the time saved on the eight basics, not the bundled plugins.

Same boat. Already rigged.

WordPress gives you all the parts. SailWP arrives with the parts already assembled.

Oil painting at dawn: on the left, a bare wooden boat hull in a quiet boatyard surrounded by tools and raw materials, raw WordPress before assembly. On the right, the same boat is fully rigged with warm coral sails, gliding peacefully on sunlit water, SailWP.

The same WordPress underneath. The boat is the same. SailWP ships with the mast already raised, the sails already cut, the rigging already tied. You skip the workbench and go straight to the water.

Want it set up for you?

SailWP Hosting installs everything in one click. No plugin shopping, no configuration.

So, which one for you?

A rough guide. If you're between the two, start with SailWP. The theme is free; you keep the site even if you uninstall Co-pilot.

SailWP

SailWP fits you

The marketing site / blog / small business owner

  • You want a finished WordPress site this week, not in a month
  • You don't want to shop for plugins or manage licences
  • You'd rather edit from your phone than learn the block editor
  • You're tired of plugin conflicts after every WordPress update
  • You want the option of an AI page builder built right in
WordPress

Stick with raw WordPress

The developer / complex-stack owner

  • You run a large WooCommerce store with custom flows
  • You have a developer on retainer who manages the stack
  • Your site depends on 20+ specialised plugins
  • You're building a marketplace, LMS, or community platform
  • You enjoy configuring plugin settings (no judgement)

Quick questions

Is SailWP really just WordPress?
Yes. Same engine, same posts, same media library, same admin. SailWP is a free WordPress theme (GPL v2+) that bundles the eight plugins most sites need, plus an optional AI page builder. Deactivate it any time and WordPress carries on as before.
Can I still use any WordPress plugin?
Yes. SailWP replaces eight common plugins (SEO, analytics, cookies, 2FA, multilingual, backups, page builder, starter templates) but doesn't touch the rest. All 60,000+ WordPress plugins still work normally, Woo, LearnDash, custom field plugins, anything.
Can I switch back to raw WordPress?
Any time. Deactivate the theme and your site continues on the WordPress default theme. Your content, posts, media, and database are untouched, SailWP doesn't change WordPress, it ships on top of it. If you used Co-pilot to design pages, those pages stay in your WordPress install as standard blocks.
Do I still need a developer with SailWP?
Usually no. The setup wizard installs and configures everything in 20 minutes. The Co-pilot edits via chat from your phone. If you want a custom integration, a deeply specialised feature, or a heavily customised WooCommerce build, a developer is still useful, but for marketing sites, blogs, and small business sites, you can run SailWP without one.
Is the SailWP theme really free?
The theme is free forever, GPL v2+, on GitHub. The Co-pilot (AI page builder) is optional at €19/month or €190/year. Managed SailWP Hosting is separately priced if you want us to handle the WordPress install. You can use the theme without paying us anything.

Skip the assembly. Ship a finished site this week.

Get managed hosting and we'll install SailWP for you, or download the free theme and run it on any WordPress host.
